  1. Effective Writing Packet (EWP) Work: Work on Effective writing technique #1:  Show, don't tell!  Use sensory details!) In the EWP,  p. 3:  read over the 6 paper choices; then do p. 4 if we didn't complete it in class. For a copy of the entire EWP (Effective Writing Packet), click HERE.

    Then, get out your OLD green lit. textbook to follow the directions in the EWP on p. 5:  Read Plath's "Reflections of  a Seventeen-Year-Old" (Click HERE to read a copy of "Reflections of a 17 Year Old" if you don't have your book.)             Answer THINK AND DISCUSS SQ's #1-5 from the old green lit. book (pp. 556-557).     Answer these right on the bottom of  p. 5 of your EWP packet.

    After reading and doing the study questions on the bottom of p. 5 of your EWP packet, follow the instructions in the EWP packet on p. 5 to write your own  J14: "My Own 'Reflections of a 14 (or 15) Year Old' using Sylvia's Plath's 'Reflections' as a model."                                                 

    Extra credit opportunity:  find out all you can about Sylvia Plath (up to a 3-5 pt. coupon)--her life, her works, her death, her awards, etc.  Interested in Sylvia Plath?  You can start learning about her by clicking HERE!

  2.   3. EWP WORK Effective Writing Technique #1 USE SENSORY DETAILS:  --DO EWP PACKET pp. 6-7!  Follow the instructions carefully.  You will write a journal called J 15  MEMOIR: "I remember when . . . " (worth 15 points--5 pts. for the top ten list/brainstorming.  5 pts. for writing the 5 minute "I remember when . . . " freewrite and then circling in RED the sensory details, and 5 pts. for filling out EWP p. 7 (the sensory detail chart, etc.) and then writing the NEW, IMPROVED revised "I remember when . . . " on the next page in your journal) Follow the directions in the Effective Writing Packet (EWP) p. 6 to do the following:  1. First, write a top ten events list first and do some brainstorming.  2. Then do a 5 min. freewrite on one of the ten events.  You must at least fill up the entire front page. After you are done, read through the entire journal, and for 5 more points IN RED PEN,  CIRCLE all the SENSORY DETAILS  (sights, sounds, smells, tastes, touch, and emotions--Click HERE for a list of helpful SENSORY WORDS) you just happened to have put in the writing.  3.Continue to follow the directions in the Effective Writing Packet (EWP) p. 7.  You will fill out the chart on page 7 with your current sensory details and then add new ideas for sensory details  (sights, sounds, smells, tastes, touch, and emotions)  If you like, click HERE for a list of helpful SENSORY WORDS TO PRINT OUT.   If you do not have at least 5 in each column, ADD several new idea that would work well in your revised J15 Memoir.  If some of the sensory details are not so great, cross them out and think of new ones.   4.Using your ideas in the chart, IMPROVE the journal's sensory details  Now, write a new, improved with more and better SENSORY DETAILS J 15 MEMOIR:  "I remember when . . . "  right in your journal on a brand new page right after your old one.  NOTE:  YOU MUST DOUBLE SPACE and NUMBER THE LINES!  Call it J 15 MEMOIR:  "I remember when . . ."
